When defoliation was accompanied with summer prunning, anthocyanin content was slightly increased. Preharvest application of D-galactose (0.25 M), D-glucose (0.25 M), and kinetin (10^(-6) M) on the fruit and leaves enhanced red coloration during maturation, but EDTA was not effective. Several contents of ethephon (100 ppm, 300 ppm, 600 ppm) treatments were effective on pigmentation of fruits except the fruits located outside of the tree. Among them the 100 ppm treatment showed the highest quality. Firmness, pH and soluble solids content were higher in the treatments of monosaccharides, kinetin, and ethephon than in control. The internal ethylene was proportionally increased with the levels of treated ethephon in the apples located inside of tree and in the bagged fruits.
